New National Minimum Wage Rates

National Minimum Wage rates will be increasing as of October 2010.

The new rates are as follows:

  • £3.64 - Workers aged 16-17 (up from £3.57)
  • £4.92 - Workers aged 18 to 20 (up from £4.83)
  • £5.93 - Workers aged 21 and over (up from £5.80)

Also from October the £5.93 minimum wage kicks in at 21, previously the adult minimum wage started at age 22.

    hi i know that the minimum wage is £5.93.that is ok but it is not enough.i think it would be better if it was at £6.50 or some where close to that.all those people who get £40 thousand a year dont need any sort of help.even people from other countrys get good money and they dont even work.i heard that some one from anothe country came here and now gets there shoping paid for and all there main bills.that is not wright.

    I don’t think that’s true. People who come from other countries:
    Asylum seekers - not allowed to work, the financial help they get is very minimal, they can just about live on it.
    Illegal immigrants - they do dog’s work for a pittance. Stuff like slaving away in the back of a takeaway for £2 an hour.
    Immigrants who have right to work in UK - apply for jobs like everyone else and if they’re good enough, they get hired.
