Anyone sending their tax return online for the first time, please get registered now - leave enough time before the 31 January deadline to get activated.

Now that the October 31st paper filing deadline has passed, if you want to get your tax return completed and filed whilst avoiding fee's and penalties, you must submit online. If you are completing yourself, you need to register online for filing via HMRC's online tax return system. Visit www.hmrc.gov.uk/online - from here you can get your User ID and apply for your activation code. You will not be able to file online until you have received your activation code. As it can take up to seven working days to receive the code - HMRC request that people register in December to avoid any possible delays that could occur in the January rush.
