The Adam Smith Institute has announced that for 2013, today, May 30th, is "Tax Freedom Day". The date is calculated by using total tax and national insurance contributions as a percentage of the UK's net income. This year this figure is 41.5 percent or equivalent to 150 days out of the year. The tax part of the calculation includes not only income taxes but:
